THE GOSHEN GARDEN CLUB $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP
PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY
The Goshen Garden Club has a long established scholarship given to students requesting financial
assistance who wish to further their education in Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design,
Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Environmental Control, Land
Management, Ecology, Horticultural Therapy, and/or allied subjects.
CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION
1. Student must be a Connecticut resident.
2. Student must be graduating from Wamogo High School.
3. Student must be planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year university or college on a full-
time basis.
4. The program of study must be as outlined above.
5. Student must have a grade point average of 80 or above.
Or, student must be a child or grandchild of a current Goshen Garden Club member and meet
Criteria 3, 4 and 5.
Or, if there are no applicants who meet all criteria above but there is an application from a current
member’s child or grandchild that meets the criteria above, except program of study, that application
will be considered for the scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic and personal achievement,
demonstrated interest in one of the above or related fields of study and a personal interview.
The applications should be submitted to: The Goshen Garden Club Scholarship Committee,
511 Sharon Turnpike, Goshen, CT 06756, before April 25.
APPLICATION MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY:
a. A transcript of the student’s school record
b. Two letters of recommendation, one academic and one personal
c. A descriptive essay explaining career and academic goals (100 word minimum)
RECIPIENT MUST BE AVAILABLE TO PICK UP THE SCHOLARSHIP CHECK AT THE
JULY GARDEN CLUB MEETING, WHICH IS HELD THE FIRST THURSDAY OF JULY AT
THE CHURCH OF CHRIST CONGREGATIONAL PARISH HOUSE IN GOSHEN.
